Woodlands

About Woodlands | Residential Children’s Home

The Woodlands is a semi-rural, 10-bedroom house in North Greater Manchester, registered for boys and girls aged 5-12 upon admission. The large, welcoming house provides children who have experienced trauma and abuse the opportunity to live in a therapeutic environment. The comfortable rooms are decorated in soft pastel colours in line with the Restorative Parenting® Recovery Programme. Children are encouraged to personalise their rooms to make them feel like their own safe spaces.

There are excellent railways and motorway links, so travel is easy from any part of the country. Activities play a prominent role for the children, with the woodland area surrounding the home playing a key role in keeping the children entertained.

The Woodlands is a therapeutic home specifically designed, furnished, and managed to optimally deliver the Restorative Parenting® Recovery Programme and ensure children placed in the home achieve outstanding outcomes and recovery from childhood trauma. At The Woodlands, we address the emotional, behavioural, social, and developmental needs of the child, enabling them to become well-rounded and happy.

The Woodlands is an integrated home with a wide range of therapeutic interventions and an onsite school to achieve the best outcome for the child. On-site education is provided at our DFE-registered, OFSTED-rated “Good” Woodlands School.

Our Mission | Restorative Parenting Programme

Our mission is to enhance children’s psychological health within the care system. Our Restorative Parenting® Recovery Programme is a therapeutic re-parenting programme that focuses on addressing the child’s emotional, behavioural, social, and developmental needs.

The Restorative Parenting® Recovery Index (RPRI) is both a marker of a child’s progress and a guide through the therapeutic journey.

Ofsted Report

The quality of children’s meetings has improved. Children are encouraged to share their views and talk about their experiences of living together. The meetings have been used to offer reassurance to children following the significant changes to the staff and management team

There continue to be improvements to the home environment and children are happy with the changes made, particularly the time and effort put into the personalisation of their bedrooms. The manager has implemented clear daily routines for staff, to ensure that the home is kept safe, clean and tidy.

The manager’s recent monitoring of the home has prioritised children’s safety, managing immediate risks, and reviewing the quality of the staff team’s practice. She recognises that broader monitoring and regular oversight of all records and systems need to be implemented in the coming weeks to be able to obtain and sustain good-quality care for children.
